Eric’s First Goose

Spring had arrived. Someone had spotted a flock of geese flying over the Naskapi community of Kawawachikmach in northern Quebec. The school is even closed for a week so kids like Eric do not miss any school. During this time of year, together, Eric, Grandma Sarah, and Grandpa Joe Ski-Doo out to Attikamagan Lake, where they set up camp and build a goose blind. After lots of patient waiting, Eric and his grandpa kill fourteen geese, and Eric celebrates this milestone—his very first goose—with his grandma’s soup and a traditional decorated goose head. This warmly nostalgic story is well-suited to readers under the age of eight.
