When leaders lead in Israel, When the people willingly offer themselves, Bless the Lord! (Judges 5:2).We need leaders in the body of Christ like never before! But what is a true spiritual leader? In my view there is a clear difference between a leader in a secular environment and a leader in the kingdom of God. While some traits may be similar and intersect these two worlds, there are key differences in the motive of the heart, which ultimately plays a huge role in defining what leadership is. While this statement should be obvious, there is a subtler reality in the body of Christ today, where a lot of ministries run more like businesses than hospitals, churches function more like organisations than families and money, not people, guides the motives and decisions of many. The root word for "lead" in judges 5:2 is the Hebrew para, which means "to lead ... to act ... to be loosed ... to let go." (Genesis' Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon). It can also mean to avenge. The idea is, when true leaders are finally let lose and the restraints are taken off, things happen! We need to let the new generation of leaders loose on the world! But what does that look like? When you throw into the mix the drastic and disruptive change in culture since the advent of social media, globalism and geo-politics playing out on the world stage on a daily basis, it's harder than ever to find genuine spiritual leadership. It's easy to see why a lot of young people are finding more inspiration in social media influences and millennial entrepreneurs than in the leaders of their church. This is setting a dangerous precedent for the future leaders of the body of Christ. When pastors learn more about how to build their church from a successful CEO on Twitter than an Apostolic Father in the faith, we are in trouble. When we have churches that look more like organisations and money-machines than a family called the Body of Christ, we are in trouble.Society and culture is changing so fast, the church must be on the cutting edge of this change, pioneering a new generation of leaders in the seven mountains and spheres of public influence (church, family, government, media, education, arts and business). However, in the need to stay relevant, we can't compIt is time for leaders in the body of Christ to LEAD. Not pander to political correctness or tread lightly around issues of sexuality and morality. It is time we are responsible for the souls of men and women on the earth right now. It is time, as leaders, we become "deliverers" of nations, disciples and mentoring missionaries and equipping evangelists for the Great End-Time Harvest. It is time to leave our nets at the sight of our Jewish Messiah and heed his call to follow Him at all costs ... As Jesus (the perfect model leader) calls us afresh into the seas of uncharted waters that surround this current cultural climate in the world today, I can hear Him echoing through the pages of history with the same cry as from the beginning: "Come, follow me." Matthew 4:19 NIVIt is time for a revolutio
