When Kang Dong-Seok and his wife move to America, they are seeking a better life for their children. At first it seems that the family is blessed. The older son Baek-Hyeon (Baker) adapts well to school and becomes engaged to a Korean American girl. But, their daughter, Mee-Hana (Mia), wants an American lifestyle and soon rebels against traditional family values. The third child, Jae-Sang (Jay) is the model boy--obedient, respectful and seemingly happy. Then, tragedy strikes the family, leaving everyone flailing. They start to believe that the Kangs are cursed. It's all a game at first, when IB student Chi-Chi Reynolds starts the IB Murder Club at Davidson International High School in Orlando, Florida. The group's goal is to play the subscription game Hunt-a-Killer and exercise their critical thinking skills. When Jay shows up at the end of the first meeting, the members welcome him immediately into their ranks and soon Jay is not just the new kid, but he is sort of dating one of the most popular girls in school, Jo Lee Chang. The International Baccalaureate program at Davidson is challenging, but Jay is successful with the guidance of his new friends and their Theory of Knowledge teacher, Samantha Spaulding. In the first semester, he achieves straight A's and seems destined for the class's Top 10. Then, all of a sudden the curse strikes again. Jay becomes embroiled in situations way beyond his fourteen years with only Chi-Chi, Jo Lee and the IB Murder Club to save him.
