Shadows Of Axes: One Day On Wyre In Orkney

Orkney is a place of ancient mystery and wonder. Its stunning landscape is dotted with prehistoric monuments, including the Ring of Brodgar and the Standing Stones of Stenness. These monuments are a testament to the ingenuity and skill of the Neolithic people who once lived here.One of the most important tools used by these early people was the stone axe. Stone axes were used for a variety of tasks, including chopping wood, clearing land, and building structures. They were also used as weapons.This book presents a collection of drawings of stone axes from Orkney made on the artist's first first visit to one of Scotland's tiniest islands. The tracings are of the actual stones, done very carefully so as to not mark their surface, turned over and around to mark the shadows they cast on the white paper. The choreography is unedited. Jotted down thoughts from the backs of the drawings will help the viewer see and understand more of this day's work. Perhaps, it is poetry.
