Overview
I want to give an account of my life, from the most fundamental point of view concerningmy own belief in God. As far as I can, I want tocome to understand it. What is it that motivatedme to remain Catholic all these years after myinfant baptism? I could have easily left, togetherwith so many of my friends and classmates. Whydid I stay?There are typically not just one or two reasonsfor why people become or stay Christian andCatholic: there are often thousands strungtogether. And yet my own personal certitude-nodoubt along with others-goes far beyond thosereasons. It is like asking a loving husband whyit is that he loves his wife. It will be hard for thehusband to even identify, much less express, allthe reasons. Thus whatever reasons he gives willalways be insufficient to all the actual reasons hehas. Christianity is like that. It is a belief system,of course, but it is also something more thanthat. It is-like marriage-also a love relationship between persons.
