Varios aspest of thw early movements' ideology, self-presentation, and its strive to "invent the tradition" of homosexuality in Russia are discussed as well as reasons and mentality of the leaders and acitivists of the movement. The Preface is written by prof. Laurie Essig, the author of milestone work "Queer in Russia: a Story of Self, Sex and Other".
