Overview
The Quest for a World History of Science is a concise History of Science from an World History standpoint. It begins with Ancient Greek Science, as the first self-conscious and well-documented scientific effort in global level. After presenting the main contributions of the Greeks in philosophy, mathematics, geometry, geography and astronomy, turns to the History of Science in China and its exchanges with India and Islam. The next chapter represents the age of the oceanic discoveries, which created the inexorable presuppositions for the genesis of the global trade and a world system. The fourth chapter refers to the history of metallurgy and electromagnetism. The fifth to the history of petroleum. The sixth to the history of computers and information technologies. The seventh focuses on important aspects of modern scientific conceptions of the universe and the last one, the eighth chapter, examines the relation between philosophy and history of science.
