Overview
What happens when you find your ex-boyfriend on a dating app after he told you that he was too busy for a relationship? If you're Jewel Evans, you create a fake persona and sign on as Chelsea, a stunning Megan Fox look-a-like, and catfish the guy to learn the truth about the breakup. In Catfish, Jewel struggles with maintaining her crafted online profiles while she searches for true love, but with every swipe of her finger, her tortured past closes in. As she navigates a blossoming romance with her hunky neighbor, Sam, and balances her friendship with Cate, who enables her covert activities, Jewel's bold attempts at meeting her catfished connections in real life, "IRL," belie the secret that she has kept hidden from everyone. In today's world of dating apps, you never know if the person on the other end is your soulmate or an enticing photo to lure you in. Jewel understands the game, but does she accept the stakes? As the lies pile up and her life begins to crumble, Jewel must decide if she can forgive her former self or disappear. "Do you want to delete Jewel, 38, ER nurse, loves artisan margaritas, Malibu sunsets, and hiking in the Santa Monica mountains?" Catfish speaks to the length women go to in pursuit of answers that most men never provide.
