This photo journal shares the author's response to pandemic through words and photos - a collection of prose, poems, and photographs written and shot by the author. 2020 brought unprecedented pain, loss, fear, and anger while our planet paused. This book is a reminder that even in the midst of crisis, there is a bounty of beauty and wonder all around us that can bring joy to our hearts and hope to our souls. When Washington State mandated its lockdown, the beauty of spring beckoned. The author decided to purposefully take photos on Bainbridge Island during walks and bike rides. It provided her with a mission and a reason to be outside in nature. In the midst of winter's dark days, still isolating, still fearing infection, she challenged herself once again. This time, the challenge was to share the photos taken at the beginning of Covid and describe what those captured moments meant to her a year later, as she reflected on how the pandemic changed her priorities. Having just turned seventy-four, she is more aware of mortality now than ever. Making this book and immersing herself in the process has been her survival lifeline during Covid. As the world begins to reopen, she hopes she will remember to witness and appreciate the precious beauty of life each day. To help you visualize the context for these photos, Bainbridge Island, the size of Manhattan, is a thirty-five minute ferry ride from Seattle, Washington. It is a small-town, rural community of about 26,000 people. Bainbridge is blessed with considerable access to walking trails, boating opportunities, and bicycle paths. The island is a favorite getaway for mainland locals and tourists visiting Seattle.
