Overview
Nick Turner is a son, a father, a musician, songwriter, lover, scientist, sailor. An Englishman, an Aussie, a genuine guitar-carrying, hitchhiking gypsy. In this memoir, Nick takes us on a road trip - a magical, mad musical trip that starts in his hometown of Nottingham in the grip of Thatcher's 1984 Britain and ends up in the same place one crazy year later. Using only his guitar and his hitching thumb, Nick busks his way from London to Paris, New York to San Diego, and back again. It's a story about coming-of-age and finding your place - geographically as well as spiritually. As we follow Nick hitching and busking on a thousand street corners and subways across England, Paris and the USA, we meet a strange and wonderful cast of characters - some tragic, some hilarious - that shape his epic journey. They may seem larger than life but, along with the music, the heartbreaks, the booze and the drugs, this trip is all real. Stick out your thumb, climb aboard and enjoy the ride.
