Overview

Through images and chapters written like scenes from an increasingly surreal movie, 33 Postcards From Heaven describes a day in the life of Joe Deegan, lover and scriptwriter- a middle aged 'seachanger' who, like many of his generation, migrates to the Rainbow Coast seeking healing, enlightenment and a little lie down. Preferably within earshot of an organic environment and some unspoilt beach?where things were going really well for Joe. Until the day he turned 50. Within a few short hours the low-sensation thrill seeker nearly drowns in the surf, virtually throws away a well-paid, undemanding job, and then almost destroys his near perfect relationship with Barbara Solomon, the wise but adorable angel who had come to his rescue after Joe's wife, Kate, died a decade earlier. When the incurable romantic discovers that, on top of bad news from his dentist, his humble beach shack is about to surrounded by 238 pink and lilac, medium density, cluster townhouses, the beautiful birthday slips into a hopelessly downward spiral?misunderstandings and lot of shouting follows. Yet in trying to rescue the small rainforest next to his modest home, Joe discovers a cause worth fighting for. Something that might even lift him out of his interminable mid-life crisis.
