Overview
Churchgoers often find that the Lord's Prayer is so familiar, they have somewhat dismissed it and its deeper meaning. Packed with gripping illustrations and fresh insights, this series of seven sermons will be both informational and inspirational. Author Thomas Short makes the point that prayer is the coming together of two who belong together. Since prayer is the union of the created and the creator, the result of prayer is not reward but relationship. Prayer is communion. It is one of the ways we have of moving toward God for whom we thirst. He notes that Jesus taught us not to be too wordy with our prayer time when he said that heathens thought "they would be heard for their many words." Consequently, Short says, the same man who taught us not to be woo wordy gave us the words for a prayer -- the Lord's Prayer. Thomas C. Short is Senior Minister of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Wilmington, Delaware. His sermons are heard weekly over WDEL radio in Wilmington. He is the author of two previous books and has published in journals such as The Interpreter, The Christian Advocate, and Pulpit Digest, to name a few.
