Overview
The Last General is the story of General Robert Tyler, for whom Fort Tyler, in West Point, Georgia--the last Confederate fort captured by Union soldiers in the Civil War--is named. Tyler, critically injured in battle, was sent to West Point to recuperate. This work of creative nonfiction provides a close-up view of a dedicated military man and how some ordinary citizens and injured soldiers experienced the war. No matter what side they take, readers will root for Tyler's recovery as the town prepares for the hard-fought Batle of West Point.
