Overview
As important as Boston was to the Revolution, Alexandria distills history into one eight-block matrix of history. One would be hard-pressed to find anyone of note in either the American revolution or the War Between the States who did not walk King or Cameron streets between Lee (then, Water) and Washington streets. Today this beautifully restored city pays homage to its heritage in historic sites and reenactments with an overlay of arts and fine dining. This pocket guide to historic Alexandria suggests a walking tour of the most historic sites in the core of Old Town, with enough information about them to make the visit interesting and to make the most of a brief stay. It takes about an hour at a brisk walk. Results may vary, especially if you decide to tour any of the individual sites.
