Overview
Three years ago, they survived against all odds-when their hometown of Meadowview Acres was plagued by a terrifying curse. Luckily for Bug and Eli, life has calmed down quite a bit since then. But when Eli, after the loss of his sight, begins experiencing heightened senses, Bug discovers an opportunity that could work to their advantage. She brings Eli to the town of Fontaine, home of the Blake Institute for the Blind, in the hopes that he can be evaluated and become a part of the elite sensory training program (HEST). However, the pair are sidetracked when they're told Bug's ten-year-old cousin Scooter's best friend has disappeared. And, less than twenty-four hours after their arrival in Fontaine, Scooter and his dog Chowder go missing as well. Joining a family and community desperate for answers, Eli and Bug race against the clock to figure out who or what could be responsible for these frightening vanishings, and when they recruit the HEST program for help, the pair's research exposes a shocking act of betrayal-and unexpected connections to a dangerous past.
