Ten years ago, I created a live experience called "The Quest" for people age 35+. It is a secret rite of passage to the second half of life. The first adventure convened in Angel Fire, New Mexico, with six participants. They included the CEO of a financial management company, the Vice President of an Austin tech company, a Senior Partner of a private equity investment and development group, a real estate broker and former mega-church minister, and a professional artist. Since then, I have guided nine Quest experiences in New Mexico and Tennessee with forty-seven alumni from all walks of life.The experience has evolved and is open to persons of any gender age thirty-five and up. My goal is to lead two per year with six participants each. This expands those experiences. While there is nothing like attending The Quest in person, I hope this book will become a well-worn guide map for your journey into second life.The Quest teaches that the path to finding your treasure, your holy grail, lies within you. Each of us has the truth we need deep inside ourselves. The way of The Quest gives you a language for your hero's journey inward: to heed your call to adventure, survive the trials, accept the rewards, and enjoy the elixir of wholeness. We must each find the words and symbols to describe our being.The path of The Quest is a unique journey, and no two ways are alike. The many options can be disorienting. But fortunately, we have universal waypoints (intermediate points) that guide us to find the wisdom needed to make this journey of personal freedom. Therefore I say each story is different, yet every story is the same.Ten topics repeatedly appeared in the rituals, books, and resources I studied and in the conversations I've had with others going through the transition to second life. Jung calls such recurrences synchronicity or "meaningful coincidences." The ten waypoints (chapters) explore each recurring theme.
