Overview
In 1926, young Emma Ehlke leaves her family's Wisconsin farm to take up a new teaching post at a Lutheran school in Racine. Excited by the prospect of leaving her dodgy rural life, inexperience is also Emma's companion as she steps off the train. She soon falls under the charms of her dashing neighbor Freddie, who offers himself to be Emma's guide to the Jazz Age. Under his guidance, she experiences a life she's only dreamed about. Meanwhile, newly ordained and single minister, Pastor Neil Hannemann longs to take her under his wing, but not like Freddie! Under his shepherding, Neil attempts to guide her home by the godly course. Emma finds herself torn.
