The Lost Art of Bel Canto is the most important modern work on the subject of the bel canto method of singing, as taught by William L. Whitney (1861-1949) and his wife, Leta. Whitney himself learned from his father and the greatest masters in Europe in the late 19th century. He then taught thousands of pupils, including the great Eleanor Steber.
