Overview

The Vietnamese people love poetry and romantic music. This book is a collection of Vietnamese song lyrics and verse, translated by a bilingual poet with over three decades of writing poetry. This book is among the first of its kind to include both poems and song lyrics by many well-known authors, that are translated by a bilingual poet. The book also include some poems written in English by the poet-translator and translated back to Vietnamese. There are 153 song lyrics and poems, written by many authors, covering various themes: love, homeland, memories, dreams, patriotism, Zen enlightenment, etc. Most of the selections are Vietnamese poetry and song classics and are very well-known. The book also includes a poetic, and highly readable verse translation of the first 496 lines of "The Tale of Thuy Kieu" by Nguyen Du. Which can be read in a sitting. A poem or song is not unlike a flower, wherever it blooms. It was a delightful and artistic journey for me to bring over homeland flowers and replant them in the universal English garden to share with poetry lovers around the world.
