Overview
The Red Lily: St. Maria Goretti is a book written by William Dennis Ryan that tells the story of a young Italian girl named Maria Goretti who was born in 1890. Maria grew up in a poor family and had to work hard to help her mother take care of her siblings. Despite her difficult circumstances, Maria was known for her kind and generous nature, and for her deep faith in God.When Maria was just 11 years old, she was brutally attacked by a young man named Alessandro Serenelli, who had been trying to sexually assault her. Maria fought back and refused to give in to his demands, even when he threatened to kill her. In the end, Alessandro stabbed her 14 times, and Maria died from her injuries the next day.The book tells the story of Maria's life, her faith, and her martyrdom, and it also explores the impact that her death had on the people around her. It shows how her example of forgiveness and love inspired many others, including her attacker, who eventually converted to Catholicism and became a model prisoner.Overall, The Red Lily: St. Maria Goretti is a powerful and inspiring book that celebrates the life and legacy of a young girl who lived her faith to the fullest, even in the face of great adversity. It is a must-read for anyone who is looking for inspiration and guidance in their own spiritual journey. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
