Overview
Rousseau and Romanticism is a book written by Irving Babbitt that explores the philosophical and literary influence of Jean-Jacques Rousseau on the Romantic movement. Babbitt argues that Rousseau's ideas, particularly his emphasis on emotion and individualism, paved the way for the Romantic emphasis on subjectivity and the inner life. He also examines the ways in which Romantic writers, such as Wordsworth and Shelley, both embraced and challenged Rousseau's ideas. Throughout the book, Babbitt offers a nuanced analysis of the complex relationship between Rousseau and the Romantic movement, shedding light on the intellectual and cultural forces that shaped the Romantic era. This book is an essential read for anyone interested in the history of ideas, philosophy, and literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
