Overview
""Andrew Johnson: Plebeian and Patriot"" is a biography of the 17th President of the United States, written by Robert W. Winston. The book explores the life of Andrew Johnson, from his humble beginnings as a tailor's apprentice in North Carolina to his rise to the presidency during the tumultuous years following the Civil War. Winston delves into Johnson's political career, including his time as a U.S. Senator and Governor of Tennessee, as well as his controversial presidency, which was marked by clashes with Congress over Reconstruction policies and the impeachment proceedings against him. The book also examines Johnson's personal life, including his marriage to Eliza McCardle and his relationships with his children. Through extensive research and analysis, ""Andrew Johnson: Plebeian and Patriot"" provides a comprehensive portrait of a complex and often misunderstood historical figure. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
