Overview
This summary retelling of the life of Christ when he was a teacher and preacher traveling about Galilee is inspired for people unfamiliar with or simply curious about the story, as well as a refresher for Christians. Faithful to the referenced Scriptures, the commentary is engaging and reader-friendly. Framed embellishments present the traditions of differing Christian churches, literary comment, or the author's experience of the episode on the page. "Lord of the Dance" lyrics by the British composer Sydney Carter are used to give sequence to the story and distinction to the chapters. Beverly Clower is a life-long Christian, writing as a layperson in the faith. Sunday School throughout her youth began her religious education. When early thoughts of writing professionally seemed unattainable, a business career evolved from her home town of Atlanta to London, Amsterdam, and Los Angeles. While leading a Bible Study for several years, she heard a sermon about the importance for Christians to "invoke the name of Jesus." During this time, a friend asked, after they had seen the opera Salome, "Who was John the Baptist?" Other such queries soon led her to begin writing "something about Jesus."
