Overview

Homestead National Monument of America (HOME) is located in Omernick's (1987) Central Great Plains ecoregion. The monument is 0.79 km2 in area, including 0.40 km2 of restored tallgrass prairie. Natural vegetation of the park is bluestem prairie (Kuchler 1964, Stubbendieck and Willson 1986). The Cub Creek basin is located in the loess plains of southeastern Nebraska and encompasses 374 km2 (Harris et al. 1991). Cub Creek meanders through the western half of HOME, exiting the park twice before finally leaving the park and joining the Big Blue River approximately 3 km downstream.
