Is your husband or partner great with kids? Does it melt your heart to see him spending time with them, or buying them thoughtful presents? Audrey Doomer thought her husband was an excellent father, as she had never known a man so attentive and responsive to his children. She often admired his loving actions toward his children, believing they were very fortunate. From the day each child was born, Jason was involved in every aspect of their lives, from changing diapers to buying clothes, and never complained. But his role as a loving, kind, and wonderful father was a well-crafted illusion. The truth is, Jason was living a child molester's dream. He not only grew his own victim, but bonded with her, dominated her, and had unsupervised access to her tiny body for hours at a time. His true motives were never seen by his trusting wife, who saw only what Jason wanted her to see. Child Sexual Abuse How high are the numbers? The United States Department of Justice states 1 out of 3 girls and 1 out of 5 boys will be molested before the age of 18. Strangely, these numbers provide comfort to parents, leading them to believe their children are not likely to be victims of a child molester. They teach their children about "stranger danger" and "good touch, bad touch" and think it's sufficient to keep their children safe. What they don't understand is that more than 90% of molested children know their molester, and won't acknowledge abuse even if asked point-blank. Shockingly, almost half of molestations are by a trusted relative. "Stranger danger" accounts for less than 10% of all sexual abuse. If that doesn't make you think twice, then think about this - it is estimated that 1 in 20 teenage boys and adult men have molested a child. Chances are, you know a child molester or two. And they don't look like dirty old men, they look like our husbands, fathers, grandfathers, brothers, uncles, sons, and cousins. Female child molesters are significantly fewer in number. Child Sexual Abuse is a pandemic. It's an ugly topic that no one wants to talk about, but the astronomical numbers of adults who admit to being molested are proof a serious problem exists. Estimates of 60 million survivors in the United States alone live with the trauma of having been molested as a child, (survivorsvoice.org) and roughly half were molested by a relative.
