Ten years in development, the World Archaeological Gazetteer is a unique catalogue or directory of over 60,000 archaeological sites, every one of which has been painstakingly verified in online global mapping systems.The scope of the gazetteer is global; coverage includes all continents of the world except Antarctica. Each site is given a name or description, a geographical position (in degrees latitude and longitude), and many entries also offer alternative names, urls of related web sites, and full references in the academic literature.
