Overview
This novel, the second in a trilogy, continues the story of a village on the Thames estuary. The first book The Poppy was set in the second half of the 18th Century. This book is set in the first half of the 19th. The descendants of Mustapha the Magician continue to provide unique medical care to the villagers. The village has as yet managed to avoid the dramatic changes that have accompanied the Industrial Revolution.
