Overview
A Modern picaresque novel following the exploits of Don Kehoe; a drunk, wife-beater and hack, as his life disintegrates around him.A whirlwind ride through the social underbelly, backside, and dark alleyways of Dublin City. A haze of beer-infected ribaldry and fornication that The Ginger Man himself would appreciate.Don Kehoe is a failing journalist with a thirst for beer and women and a propensity to use his fists when words would suffice. As Don's life disintegrates around him and his dreams of permanent paying employment slips slowly away, and his woman turfs him out on the streets of Dublin, we see the resilient yet child-like spirit and yearning to be understood that defines this particular picaro. Written in an experimental style, The Libertine will challenge your sensibilities and morals. Will you love or loath our lothario? Only you can answer that.People that have enjoyed books by J.P. Donleavy will find some familiar territory in this story.T.S. O'Rourke's writing has been declared powerful, beautiful and hard-boiled by both readers and critics alike.
