Overview
A compelling story of the ties that bind and the forces that drive us apart, Wars, Lies, and Family Ties continues the saga of the Bateman family begun in John R. Finger's debut novel, Wars Unwon. Set against the backdrop of the major events of the first half of the twentieth century, Wars, Lies, and Family Ties depicts the complicated relationships and lives of the descendants of Civil War veteran-and thief-Shannon Bateman. Tracing the life of Shannon's grandson, Walter Stevenson, the story also features Shannon's second wife, Lyla; his two daughters Rosalinda and Sophia; and other relatives of dubious fame and notoriety. As Walter Stevenson, a career army officer, comes to terms with the many and varied problems that shadow him, he watches the world turn and values changes throughout the course of World War I, the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, and World War II. A powerful exploration of the curious intertwining of love, jealousy, and hate amid one extraordinary and volatile family, Wars, Lies, and Family Ties will sweep you up in its scope and invite you to lose yourself in the saga.
