Overview
This book uses the charm and friendship of a renowned Chicago skating rink as a backdrop to detail the stark, cruel reality of life in the Chicago's 1953 South Side where the "great migration" of Negroes and others minorities sought escape from the known oppressive "jim crow" South only to meet head-on the unknown strife and misery that greeted them in the fast-growing ghettos in the "free"North.
