Overview
Edith watches the lovers in her favorite movies, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Dr. Zhivago, and wonders when that magic will happen to her. A child of 1950s' suburbia, her repressive upbringing didn't give her much experience with the opposite sex. Her search for the spark of romance has just left her with dud after dud. There was the fake psychic, the emotionally aloof graduate student...the list goes on and on. Maybe the universe is trying to tell her that smoldering desire isn't for her. When Edith finally says adieu to passion and settles for the staid, solid Bruce, she thinks that she's doing the right thing. She couldn't be more wrong. Edith tries to save her marriage by understanding her past heartbreaks and failures, but when she walks into Dr. Cametti's office and meets the brilliant, intense psychologist, she begins to wonder, what is there in her relationship with Bruce that is really worth saving? Should she keep up her lifestyle as the perfect 1960s' housewife, or take a wild, reckless chance on love?
