Overview
In the future, humanity enters a dangerous and deadly conflict with an alien race known as the Kalix. The major, in charge of the Fourteenth Ground Assault Regiment, is aware of the dangers the aliens pose to the republic and all of humanity. When she and her sergeant receive information from fleet intel that the Kalix are running out of fuel, they are ordered to Mutar, a key fuel refinery under republic control. Their objective is to hold the refinery as long as possible. The major knows that this situation will require cunning and courage. Holding the refinery could mean the difference between life and death for millions of people. There is little chance that the battle won't end with the destruction of the regiment. The major is willing to accept the sacrifice required to hold a key position, but her heart can't help but wonder about what could have been. She has come to rely on her sergeant; he has become her irreplaceable companion, and their surprising bond may change the course of the conflict.
