Saul battles Israel's enemies, suffers the harsh dictates of the prophet Samuel, and contends with his obsessive fear of David. Though Saul is often seen as a failure in the rest of the Bible, many of his questions are shared by believers today: Why do some sense God's presence and others do not? Why does God choose to reveal Himself to some and not to others? How can we know what is the right thing to do? What does God expect of us? Saul's story is a tragic one but it is also the story of a man who tried, not always successfully to be useful to his people and faithful to his God.
