Overview
In his poetry collection, The Transition, David L. Johnson explores the intersection of spiritual awareness and personal experience. Each work is specifically crafted to provoke moments of reflection. Johnson opens the collection with "It Is Here." This simple poem, written in free verse, sets the tone of the rest of the collection: "It is here within us / Even when we look away." With these verses, Johnson celebrates the inner light in each of our lives and our personal, powerful, inextinguishable sparks. Your spiritual journey shouldn't be about searching for a new flame but finally seeing the one that has always been present within you. Johnson's next twelve poems build on this central theme and expand the scope of the collection. "Debris Field" uses cosmological imagery to urge you to let go of the negative voices in your life. This imagery pervades other poems (like "Ahead of Time") as well: "Even without knowing how to believe / Planets assume their space / The universe believes them into orbit." With a powerful mixture of the intimate and the sublime, Johnson's poetry will inspire you to ponder your own spiritual journey and the personal nature of belief.
