The thesis of this study is derived from the position of human consciousness. The approach in attempting and explanation of consciousness is explored in terms of the metaphors of darkness and light while considering the opening sentences of Genesis. In this sense, the exploration of the origins of consciousness is expressed in terms of darkness and light as primeval sources of human and being. The awareness is considered as well as the womb (is symbolically considered). Strongly indicated is that culture becomes the means through which the consciousness and awareness defines self in terms of proximity. This involves the emergent psyche and consciousness to grasp balance and self-management in terms of spatial and temporal boundaries. The cultural emphasis involves the substance and form of American culture through the areas of the writer's biography, knowledge, and study. The reader will note the tools of anthropological and philosophical structuralism as derived specifically from Claude Levi-Strauss, Mary Douglas, and Jaques Derrida. Other writers and thinkers in the areas of philosophy, anthropology, psychology, theology and education are considered and applied.
