Overview
A theological work concerned with judgment, spiritual order, and the structure of the afterlife, Last Judgment Posthumous presents Emanuel Swedenborg's interpretation of the final judgment as a spiritual rather than purely material event. The text develops Swedenborg's view that judgment occurs within the spiritual world and reflects the inward state of individuals rather than an external or visible transformation of the physical world. Drawing on his broader theological framework, he describes the processes by which spiritual conditions are revealed and ordered, presenting judgment as an ongoing reality rather than a singular historical moment. As a posthumous work, the text extends themes found in Swedenborg's earlier writings, including the nature of heaven and hell, the relationship between the material and spiritual realms, and the interpretation of scriptural passages. The result is a continuation of his systematic approach to theology, combining exposition with interpretive commentary.
