Overview

Extensive information regarding sex hormones has been provided in this profound book. Besides regulating reproductive function, sex hormones also fundamentally influence the physiology and biology of various tissues/organs and pathophysiology of various diseases. Over the last two decades, studies on the mechanisms of action of sex hormones (estrogens and androgens) have rapidly expanded from the conventional nuclear receptor dependent mechanisms to the additional non-genomic, non-nuclear and receptor-independent mechanisms. This has depicted a pressing need to increase the current database of knowledge on sex hormones and their mode of action. Growing evidence regarding the capability of exogenous/epigenetic factors to affect sex hormone production and action emphasizes the need to update the current knowledge on sex hormones, their mode of action and the mechanisms involved. This book provides latest insights into male/female sex hormones and how they can affect physiology and biology of several organs. It also discusses the therapeutic potential and positive and negative association of these sex hormones with pathophysiology of numerous diseases such as cancer, osteoporosis etc.
