Engineering hydrology is the field of engineering that deals with the study of movement, occurrence, distribution, and the properties of water on the Earth or beneath its surface and in the atmosphere. The primary applications of engineering hydrology include the calculating of rainfall, surface runoff and precipitation, determining water balance, enabling real-time flood forecasting and warning, etc. It also aims to establish a relationship between ground and surface water observed in catchments, design and operation of hydraulic structures and generation of hydropower.
