Overview
A prime mover refers to a type of engine that converts fuel to useful work. Inbound and outbound engines, gas turbines, steam turbines and water turbines are some examples of prime movers. Thermal prime mover and non-thermal prime mover are the two main types of prime movers. Thermal prime movers are the types of prime movers which primarily use the thermal energy from a source to produce power. Some examples of thermal primary movers are heat engines, geothermal, solar energy, nuclear power plant and bio gas. Non-thermal prime movers do not use heat energy and can be subdivided into include tidal turbines, hydraulic turbines and wind turbines.
