He was a Sir Dorabji Tata Scholar throughout his graduation from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics and the Master's Degree in Management Studies from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute. Subsequently he studied at the Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He has written regularly on rural marketing, economic, political and sociological topics for a range of journals in India and abroad.He has authored ten other books viz.
