Overview
Algebra is the language of problem solving. The notations and conventions used in algebra developed because they gave mathematicians the power to discuss more and more complicated situations in the world. This textbook serves as a companion to The Power of Mathematics: A Survey of Problem-Solving Strategies. Following both books, you will be introduced to algebra topics here just before they become useful there. If it has been a while since you have thought about algebra, this textbook will serve as a review of key concepts. If you have struggled to learn algebra in the past, revisiting ideas in the context of applications will help you learn by showing why each skill is useful.
