Overview

The Dīgha Nikāya is the first division of the Sutta Pitaka and consists of thirty-four suttas, grouped into three vaggas. These long discourses highlight many aspects of the Buddha's teaching, including morality, causality, perfect wisdom, and mindfulness. The suttas throw light on the social, cultural, religious and political conditions of ancient India during the time of the Buddha. Ten Suttas from Dīgha Nikāya presents a selection of ten discourses: Brahmajāla Sutta, Samaññaphala Sutta, Poṭṭhapāda Sutta, Mahānidāna Sutta, Mahāparinibbāna Sutta, Mahāsatipaṭṭhāna Sutta, Cakkavatti Sutta, Saṃpasādanīya Sutta, Pāsādika Sutta, and Siṅgāla Sutta.
