I Don't Drink Kool Aid: Part One

The words became a part of popular culture, implying that some bad thing will happen if you do. It also implies a giving up of self. Maybe it means even more, and maybe we all do it in one way or another, even when we think we don't.There are timeless universal truths, and they are cycled and re-cycled, discovered and re-discovered, through the ages. But it is usually only when they are discovered and experienced personally that they can inspire. Inspire to discover self, inspire to change, inspire to evolve to where you are meant to be in this life. It's not easy... Meet Jordan Russell. I don't drink Kool Aid. I have nothing against it personally. I never had a bad experience with it as a child - didn't get sick, no traumatic events related to it. For me, it was always just a let down. I liked the packaging - the neat little envelopes, all the flavors and colors, the happy smiling pitcher. He looked like he would be a good friend. When you had a few of the packs in your hand it was like holding playing cards. Made you want to shuffle them, deal them, maybe even tell your fortune with them. The possibilities seemed endless. But from the moment I would tear open that envelope and pour the powdered contents into a pitcher - clouds of flavored dust rising from the bottom, quieted by adding water and stirring - from that moment on, it just never lived up to expectations for me. The first real taste always fell short - flat, thin, shallow - less than I had imagined. From endless possibilities to finite limitations in one stir and sip. Such as life could be if you let it, and as I was to find out. It had seemed like it would be just what I wanted - fun and the perfect quencher for my thirst. But, after a taste, large or small... I remained thirsty and in search.
