Caleb Davis is a barrel-stave maker: big, brawny and with a healthy outdoors appearance. His life is an open book to anyone who cares to read it. Nigel Jessup is a moonshine-maker: skinny, pallid and one who avoids sunlight as zealously as a bat. He does most of his work in the dark; in secret.
