Her only friend that she's met in college, Crimson, is the only one she feels that she can relate to. He too, is an only child. His parents had also died when he was eighteen. On a cold dark night there is a knocking on the back porch, then suddenly something hits the floor with a thump like a metal fist on wood. This startles Crimson, makes him nervous, he creeps slowly listening for sounds, imagining terrors in the dark house. He gets to the door and finds a leather bound book thrust through the mailbox. Transfixed with the markings he cannot read, he has to show Arlana..
