What started as an anniversary gift for my wife eventually became a unique look into the life and love of a long-time married couple. Our story is shared through memories of a life shared together, with each look back providing insight into the journey that is "being married." My hope is that you will find it equal parts heart-warming and hilarious. How To Be Married - The ForwardFor the twenty-five days leading up to our 25th anniversary, I wrote this book as a gift to my wife, Melody. Melody is the girl that changed everything. She's the girl who stayed. She's the girl who allowed me to become something I could have never known was possible without. She's smart. She's shy. She's pretty. AND SHE MARRIED ME...which still blows me away all these years later. I wanted her to have something to keep as a token of my appreciation for her sharing her life with me.There is no way I could ever return all that she has given me, but I do try.I wanted to give her something that would last. So, each day I spent a few minutes writing down the lessons I've learned and the memories we've created that make us...well...us. Within the things that I've written down, you'll quickly see that there is hope for anyone who would like to be able to stay married. There's just no way to read all of this and not think, "Jeez, if that guy is still married, I am sure I can do this."After each of my days was written down, I shared them on social media as an ongoing gift to Melody. The reaction was positive enough that I have decided to compile all of them and put them into a format that allows them to be shared with those outside of my social media world.As a result, each "chapter" that follows contains the heart of what was written on that day. I've made revisions to make the product more legible and easier to follow for those that don't actually know us.This book was never intended to teach some poor sap how to find a girl and get married. Seriously, I just got lucky. Well, it wasn't pure luck. I had a friend who was handsome enough that he got me asked out on a date. Suffice to say that you're going to need a little luck to find your own Melody.Have you ever met someone and wondered out loud, "How the heck is he still married?" I'm that guy. And the truth is, I have no idea. If you read through this journal and expect this to be an actual how-to, you're going to be disappointed (and probably divorced). The purpose here is to entertain you and tell you what I've learned about myself, about her and about us. Inside are a few simple rules for being married that I've learned over the years. There are a few memories that will highlight the journey we've been on thus far together. There will be a few things I'll share about Melody just so that Melody, and anyone who actually reads this, understands how lucky I feel to be at this point in my life with this girl.Staying married isn't an accident. There are things that I've made a part of my life intentionally so that I can keep my first wife.
