Hi, everyone! This is Ruth Bartlett speaking. My good friends call me Ruthie -- and you can call me Ruthie, too! Welcome! Welcome! to my Adventures in Friendship. Y'know, I never wanted to go to that church picnic, or anything at church. But something happened at that picnic . . . something happened there and . . . yes, it was strange and . . . well, not WONDERFUL then -- oh, no, it was anything but wonderful then, but when my parents . . . and her parents . . . . I tell that whole story in one Adventure, but first comes the Adventure of making friends with . . . an unusual lady, that summer my family went away. Is UNUSUAL enough of a word to describe her -- the lady? Tell me what you think, after you read it -- after I tell the story . . . . And there were other new friends that summer, too. And there were new Adventures in Friendship that autumn, back home and back at school. There are so many different ways you can meet a new friend, including starting out by HATING them.
