Overview
Introduction to Legal and Ethical Issues in Sport examines the fundamentals of key areas of law that impact the sport industry and related ethical concepts that guide behavior and decision-making in sport settings. Each chapter begins with an opening statement that contains an overview of a specific area of law and ethics, followed by learning objectives so students understand what is expected from the respective chapter content. Each chapter is then divided into two major sections: I (The Law) and II (The Ethics). Section I sets forth fundamentals of the relevant area of law and case examples in sport. It also includes a list of key cases under the heading Setting a Precedent. Section II contains case scenarios, which present and analyze ethical dilemmas--real and hypothetical--that arise in sport and the sport industry. Sections I and II are followed by a closing argument, which summarizes the main points and concepts of the chapter. Select chapters also feature case notes in text boxes to identify and discuss an important case decision in that area of law. Full case citations, statutory citations, as well as other sources and authorities for each chapter are found in the references at the end of the book. Introduction to Legal and Ethical Issues in Sport provides students with a firm legal and ethical foundation for sport management and well prepares them for whatever field they choose to pursue.
