CREATING A MANAGEABLE ALLOTMENT PLOTThis is an experienced based book on how we designed our allotment gardens or plots that are both manageable and productive.we do not delve deeply into the horticultural side of growing produce as there are more authoritative sources for this online and from the seed producers.Given our busy lifestyles of today we required an allotment garden that would be manageable throughout the year and the current resurgence in the popularity of allotment gardening we hope will benefit from the work we have undertaken. We have taken five years to design and build these allotment gardens and have captured images and details of the progress through that time.Whilst this book provides details of our creation of three allotment plots over a five year period it also notes the issues faced by numerous new plot holders that we have seen on our allotment and why many have simply downed tools and have given up the task of creating a productive garden sometimes within weeks of taking on the plot which is a disappointment for the new Tennant and also for the allotment as this affects the funds available for development through the rental incomes. We cover the aspects of the initial allotment plot acceptance and the variable condition that the land can be in at that time through to the covering of un cultivated areas to reduce the invasion of weeds and unwanted plants. Many allotment gardens do not have water supplies on tap and we have included the process we use to overcome this and suggest how best to manage the water. As we progressed through the development of the design and use of the garden we added such things as water catchers, greenhouses and more recently a polly tunnel and have detailed the processes through the construction and use of these items. The book also includes a diversion into our kitchen where we make the best use of the harvested produce that we have grown and included a number of our favourite recipes that we have created over the years to simply share what can be done with some of the produce from the garden. The three plots we have are still in use and will always be a work in progress as new plants and new devices become available to us.We do hope that this publication will assist those of you who would like to take up allotment gardening.
