Overview

James Liddy is considered one of Ireland's most original poetic voices. Since beginning his career in the early 1960s with the Dolmen Press in Dublin, he has gone on to create a body of work unique in both contemporary Irish and contemporary American literature. He continues to intrigue and inspire readers on both sides of the Atlantic, as this Tribute attests. Born in 1934, Liddy is still going strong, working full-time as a Professor of Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and as an active poet still at the height of his powers. In this book, 40 of his friends and colleagues, writers and drinking-buddies, pay tribute to him in respectful and irreverent ways through the forms of poetry, prose and memoir. Gathered together are poets, novelists, visual artists and scholars, from the famous to the obscure. This volume features poetry from Thomas Kinsella, Cathal Ó Searcaigh, Michael Hartnett, Pearse Hutchinson, Mary O'Donoghue and others, prose from Gabriel Rosenstock, Micheal Ó Conghaile, John Montague, Charles Bukowski, memoir from Liam O'Connor, John Behan, George Stanley and many more besides. Honeysuckle, Honeyjuice is much more than a simple tribute. For the reader unfamiliar with Liddy, this is a unique way in. For those who are already familiar, it is a blow-out anthology.
